You Won’t Believe How 7 Dangerous Inmates Escaped New Orleans Jail!
Seven inmates remain free after a daring escape from Orleans Parish Prison in New Orleans. Early on May 16, 10 inmates broke out by removing a defective cell door and tearing away a toilet and sink from a wall. They climbed out through a hole behind a toilet and fled across a highway. Authorities have recaptured three inmates, but seven are still on the run. The escape has raised concerns about possible inside help, as a jail employee reportedly saw the breakout but did not report it.
Orleans Parish Prison Conditions
The Orleans Parish Prison, built in 1837, is known to have serious maintenance problems. Officials say the jail needs urgent repairs to doors and locks, but budget limits have delayed fixes. Some inmates who escaped face serious charges, including murder and armed robbery.
Ongoing Manhunt and Public Safety
Authorities are offering rewards up to $7,000 for tips leading to arrests. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell thanked law enforcement for their hard work during the manhunt. Residents are urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.
