Donald Trump’s official online store has begun selling apparel branded with “Trump 2028,” despite the former president being constitutionally barred from seeking a third term.
The merchandise, which includes red baseball caps priced at $50 and T-shirts in navy and red for $36, bears slogans such as “Trump 2028” and “Rewrite the Rules.” A promotional photo shared Thursday on a social media account associated with Trump shows his son Eric Trump wearing the new hat. The product description reads, “Make a statement with this Made in America Trump 2028 hat.”
While the 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution clearly states that “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice,” Trump has not entirely dismissed the idea of running again. Speaking last month, the 78-year-old claimed there are “methods” that could allow him to serve a third term, though he offered no specifics.
Trump, who previously held office from 2017 to 2021 and is now in his second non-consecutive term, has stirred controversy with these suggestions. Most legal scholars and political analysts consider any attempt to seek a third term legally implausible. Amending the Constitution would require a two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate, followed by ratification from at least 38 of the 50 U.S. states, an extremely unlikely scenario.
The release of the 2028-branded items comes as Trump approaches the 100-day mark of his second term amid falling approval ratings. Recent polls show growing public dissatisfaction with his handling of economic issues, particularly inflation and his erratic approach to international trade and tariffs.
Critics argue the merchandise is a marketing ploy designed to energize Trump’s base and stir political conversation. Supporters, however, see it as a statement of defiance and a call to challenge what they view as an outdated rule.
As speculation continues, the sale of “Trump 2028” merchandise has only added to the divisive atmosphere surrounding his presidency—and the question of what may come next.
