Jan 28, 2025: Jim Acosta announced on January 28 that he would be leaving CNN after nearly 20 years with the network. His decision came after CNN offered him a midnight time slot, which he declined.
The aggressive CNN correspondent made the announcement during his final broadcast on Tuesday, where he encouraged viewers to “hold onto the truth and to hope” and not to give in to lies or fear.
“Jim has had a long, distinguished nearly 20-year career at CNN, with a track record of standing up to authority, for the first amendment and for our journalistic freedoms,” the network said.
Bidding farewell, he expressed his gratitude to CNN and its viewers while also criticizing the network’s decision. He stated that he would be pursuing his own journalism ventures. He will focus on holding power accountable. Jim Acosta’s departure was met with mixed reactions, including support from his fans and criticism from President Donald Trump, who described Acosta as “one of the worst and most dishonest reporters in journalistic history.”
Jim Acosta has since launched an independent show on Substack, a platform that allows journalists to publish newsletters and earn money of their work. He has vowed to continue his work in journalism and to not be silenced by those who oppose his reporting.
