Trump Highlights Economic and Security Priorities in First Joint Address to Congress
President Donald Trump delivered his first joint address to Congress since returning to the White House, outlining his administration’s key accomplishments and future goals. The 13,000-word speech focused on government reforms, border security, tariffs, and foreign policy.
A joint address is not a State of the Union but an opportunity for a newly sworn-in president to set an initial agenda. The Hearst Television Data Team analyzed Trump’s speech, revealing that his most frequently used words were “going,” “dollars,” and “us.” Compared to his first address in 2017, which emphasized “new,” this speech projected a forward-looking approach.
Trump frequently referenced financial matters, with “dollars” being his second most-used word. He mentioned tariffs 14 times, surpassing his references to the economy, which appeared only five times. His predecessor, President Joe Biden, was named at least 10 times.
Security was another key theme, with “military” appearing six times. Trump also discussed international relations, mentioning at least 15 countries. Ukraine was the most referenced nation, appearing seven times, followed by Panama, China, Russia, Mexico, and Canada. He also spoke about Greenland three times.
With a focus on economic strength and national security, Trump’s speech reflected his administration’s priorities for his new term.
