Trump Fires Top US Military Leaders in Major Shake-Up -

US President Trump has removed General Charles “CQ” Brown from his position as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as one of the many steps towards a radical shift in military command. Gen Brown, only the second Black officer in history to achieve this rank, was responsible for leading national security conversations for the president along with the Secretary of Defense.

In a post made on social media, Trump replaced Gen Brown with five more officers of higher rank while expressing gratitude for his forty years in service.

Trump’s Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, has openly favored his removal in the past, arguing that his support for ‘Diversity, Equity and Inclusion’ programs in the military is causative of the problem. Next in line to the Army were Chief of Naval Operations Adm Lisa Franchetti first female in charge of the US Navy and Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen Jim Slife.

The position of chairman is now with Air Force Lt Gen Dan Caine, a career F-16 pilot and former CIA Associate Director for Military Affairs. Dan Caine comes after strict policies and was used on turned out to be targets of other American military branches. While speaking at CPACs, Trump claimed that “he was better than any movie actor.”

His term was meant to end in 2027. He first rose to prominence in the US in 2020 when he came forward on racial violence after George Floyd was killed. After he visited US troops at the southern border, Gen Brown was let go, which came as a shock to him as his release came only hours after this.

The Pentagon also announced budget cuts and the removal of 5,400 probationary employees next week. Meanwhile, a federal judge in Maryland has temporarily blocked Trump’s bans on DEI programs, citing potential violations of free speech rights under the US Constitution.
