President Donald Trump attended the Daytona 500 on Sunday, marking his second time at the NASCAR season opener while in office. Calling the event a symbol of unity, Trump said the race embodied a spirit that would “fuel America’s Golden Age.”

In a presidential message released en route to Daytona Beach, Trump praised the event for bringing together people from all walks of life through a shared passion for speed and competition.

“From the roar of the engines on the track to the echo of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ soaring through the stands, the Daytona 500 is a timeless tribute to the speed, strength, and unyielding spirit that make America great,” Trump said.

Air Force One performed a dramatic flyover of the Daytona International Speedway before landing. Trump, traveling from West Palm Beach, arrived with his son Eric, his wife, grandson Luke, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and his wife, Kathryn. Several members of Congress were also in attendance.

His motorcade made a grand entrance onto the track, and his limousine, known as “The Beast,” led the field in two ceremonial laps. Over the radio, Trump addressed the drivers, urging them to enjoy the event while staying safe.

“This is your favorite president. I’m a big fan. I am a really big fan of you people,” Trump said. “You’re talented people and great Americans. Have a good day, have a lot of fun, and I’ll see you later.”

Trump last attended the race in 2020, serving as the grand marshal and delivering the famous command to start engines. Sunday’s event began in front of a sold-out crowd, with many fans wearing red “MAGA” hats. However, heavy rain forced a delay after just eight laps.

Trump, a sports fan, departed the race early due to the weather. The visit followed his historic attendance at last weekend’s Super Bowl, making him the first sitting president to attend the event.
