FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried, currently serving a 25-year prison sentence for defrauding users of his cryptocurrency exchange, described fellow inmate Sean “Diddy” Combs as “kind” during a jailhouse interview with Tucker Carlson. The interview, recorded at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, aired Thursday on The Tucker Carlson Show.

Bankman-Fried, 33, revealed that he shares a unit with Combs, the music mogul facing sex trafficking charges. Despite the allegations against Combs, Bankman-Fried noted,

“I’ve only seen one piece of him, which is Diddy in prison, and he’s been kind to people in the unit; he’s been kind to me.”

Convicted in November 2023 on seven counts of wire fraud, securities fraud, and money laundering, Bankman-Fried was found guilty of orchestrating one of the largest financial frauds in U.S. history. His failed cryptocurrency exchange, FTX, collapsed in 2022, wiping out billions in investor funds.

During the interview, he described his prison experience as “dystopian” but said he does not feel physically threatened. He has formed friendships with fellow inmates, including former gang members, and expressed surprise at their impressive chess skills.

Bankman-Fried also spoke about his shifting political stance. While he was a major donor to President Joe Biden in 2020, he claimed his later experiences in Washington led him to secretly support Republicans. He denied leveraging political connections during his trial and refuted speculation about his erratic courtroom behavior, rejecting claims that he had taken Adderall.

Looking ahead, Bankman-Fried voiced optimism about the future of cryptocurrency under former President Donald Trump, citing ongoing regulatory improvements. However, his financial future appears grim. He admitted to having “basically no” money left after being ordered to pay $11 billion in forfeiture as part of his sentencing.

Marking his 33rd birthday behind bars, Bankman-Fried shared that he had no plans to celebrate, adding that he was never particularly fond of birthdays, even before his conviction.
