Read Time:1 Minute, 49 Second

March 28, Fort Lauderdale, Florida: Rapper Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, have been found guilty on all charges in their federal wire fraud trial. The convictions were delivered by a jury in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Friday after 3.5 hours of deliberation.

Fraud Scheme and Convictions

Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, and his 61-year-old mother were accused of orchestrating a fraud scheme that targeted multiple luxury businesses, including:

  • A jewelry company
  • A luxury bed manufacturer
  • A high-end exotic car dealership
  • A luxury microLED TV supplier

According to the indictment, Kingston leveraged his celebrity status and social media presence to persuade sellers to deliver expensive items before receiving payment. His mother allegedly coordinated delivery details and ensured the transactions went through. However, payments were made through fraudulent and worthless wire transfers, while the goods remained in Kingston’s possession.

The fraudulent activities spanned several years until March 2024, when authorities began cracking down on the scheme.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

Kingston, 34, was arrested in Fort Irwin, California, in May following a raid at his Southwest Ranches, Florida, home by a SWAT team. The arrest was carried out based on a warrant issued by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

A federal grand jury indicted Kingston and Turner in July 2024, leading to their eventual trial and conviction.

Sentencing and Court Orders

  • Sean Kingston has been placed under house arrest with electronic monitoring until sentencing. He is required to post a $500,000 surety bond (secured by a home) and $200,000 in cash.
  • Janice Turner has been remanded into federal custody and will remain incarcerated until sentencing.

Both are scheduled to be sentenced on July 11, 2025.

Courtroom Reactions

As the guilty verdicts were announced, both Kingston and his mother were seen wiping away tears in court.
