A grand military parade featuring, historic reenactments is set for June 14, coinciding with Donald Trump’s birthday.

The White House has confirmed that a military parade will be staged to celebrate the US Army’s 250th anniversary on 14 June, which is also President Donald Trump’s birthday.

A “day-long festival” will take place on the National Mall in Washington, DC, an army spokesperson explained, stating the event would include 6,600 soldiers, 150 military vehicles, 50 aircraft, and seven Army bands.

The ceremony is to be one of the largest military spectacles in American history. It will also feature the Golden Knights parachute unit and historical recreations of various American wars, from the Revolutionary War to current battles in Iraq and Afghanistan. The procession will march from Arlington, Virginia.

Trump initially considered a military parade in his initial term, but he canceled it after news broke that it would cost around $90 million (£71m).

Earlier on Friday, Trump unveiled plans to rebrand Veterans Day – referred to as Remembrance Day in the UK – as “Victory Day for World War I” to honor American efforts in the war.

The military reported planning for the military parade was “actively underway,” and it was considering “options to make the celebration even larger, with more capability displays, more demonstrations of equipment, and more involvement with the community.” Trump turns 79 on that day.

He first floated a military parade for Veterans Day in 2018.

He also stated he hoped for the US to “top” France’s Bastille Day parade, which he witnessed on a trip to Paris in 2017.

Apart from renaming Veterans Day, Trump has indicated he wishes to title VE Day on 8 May as “Victory Day for World War II”.

The proclamation was not supported by an executive order, and it is unknown if he wishes for 8 May to be a federal holiday – a decision that lies in the hands of the US Congress.

Although the parade is an important national event, it also manifests the Trump administration’s focus on military success and national pride. Others have questioned the expense and possible infrastructure destruction because of the heavy military equipment used.

In general, the June 14 parade is likely to be a big show, combining the celebration of the U.S. Army’s historic milestone with the personal birthday of the former president.
