Jan 27, Sunday, Indiana: Matthew Huttle, a 42-year-old man from Hobart Indiana who received a pardon from Donald Trump for his participation in the Jan 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. capitol was fatally shot by a sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop on Sunday.
He was killed by a Jasper County deputy “when an altercation took place between the suspect and the officer. This resulted in the officer firing his weapon and fatally wounding the suspect. The police said he was found with a gun. The officer involved in the action has been placed on paid administrative leave as the Indiana Police investigate the incident.
Huttle was one of the more than 1,500 people pardoned by Trump on the first day of his second term in office for their roles in the 2021 Capitol riots.
Huttle of Hobart Indiana was sentenced to 6 months in federal prison and a year of supervised release for entering the Capitol for 10 minutes during the riots. He was later released from prison in July 2024 according to the federal records. Huttle traveled to the capitol with Dale Huttle, his uncle. His uncle was later pleaded guilty to January 9-related offenses, after being accused of attacking a police officer with a flagpole with an up-side down American flag.
Matthew Huttle’s defense attorney claimed him to be a bystander swept in the violent events of January 6.
