February 17, Miami: A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident in Miami Beach on Saturday night, where he allegedly targeted two individuals, claiming to have aimed at “two Palestinians.” Mordechai Brafman now faces two charges of attempted second-degree murder, according to the reports.
Surveillance footage from the scene shows Brafman’s truck traveling south on Pine Tree Drive before making a U-turn at 48th Street. The truck then stopped in front of a vehicle carrying two victims. Brafman is seen exiting his truck, walking to the driver’s side of the victim’s car, and opening fire. Reports indicate that the victim’s car was struck by 17 bullets during the attack. Both individuals inside the vehicle were hit by gunfire; one victim was injured in the left shoulder, while the other suffered a graze wound to the forearm.
Brafman was later apprehended at a nearby location on Pine Tree Drive. During questioning by the police, he allegedly told officers, “While I was driving my truck, I saw two Palestinians and shot and killed both.” However, despite his statement, no fatalities resulted from the incident. The victims, who were reportedly from Israel, did not sustain life-threatening injuries, and their nationality or whether they were Palestinian has not been confirmed by authorities. Social media posts have since identified the victims as an Israeli father and son.
The police have clarified that while the victims were visiting from Israel, their national background or whether they were Palestinians remains unverified. Authorities have not provided further details about Brafman’s motive beyond his claim during the police interview. The investigation is ongoing, and Brafman remains in custody as the case unfolds.
This incident has raised concerns, with the shooting occurring amid heightened tensions surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but authorities have yet to confirm if the attack was racially or politically motivated.
