Lawsuit Against Jay-Z and Diddy Dismissed by Court

Read Time:1 Minute, 24 Second

A lawsuit against music moguls Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jay-Z, alleging the rape of a 13-year-old girl in 2000, has been dismissed in a New York court. The legal filing, submitted on Friday, states that the plaintiff, referred to as Jane Doe, voluntarily withdrew the case with prejudice, preventing its refiling.

The lawsuit, originally filed in October 2023 against Combs and later amended in December to include Jay-Z, accused the two men of sexually assaulting the plaintiff after an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty. Both denied the allegations, with Jay-Z’s legal team calling the claims “frivolous and fictitious.”

Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s entertainment company, released a statement from the rapper celebrating the dismissal as a “victory.” He condemned the allegations as “appalling” and emphasized the trauma endured by his family. His attorney, Alex Spiro, highlighted that Jay-Z never settled and “triumphed and cleared his name.”

The lawsuit’s credibility was questioned in December when Jane Doe admitted in an interview that “not all the facts are clear” and acknowledged a possible mistake in identifying the accused. Following this, Jay-Z requested the court to dismiss the lawsuit, a motion granted by U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres.

While Jay-Z is no longer facing legal action, Sean Combs remains embroiled in over three dozen civil lawsuits. His legal team issued a statement asserting his innocence and predicting similar dismissals of other cases.

Combs, currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on federal charges of racketeering and sex trafficking, has been denied bail three times. His trial is scheduled for May 5, 2025, as he continues to fight the allegations against him.
