28 April Myrtle Beach USA: A deadly night in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, shooting claimed one life and left 11 others hurt along North Ocean Boulevard late Saturday.
The violence began at about 11:50 p.m. when police observed a disturbance involving several individuals in the 900 block of North Ocean Boulevard, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD). When confronted, one person began shooting, and an officer responded immediately by firing to take out the threat. Authorities have confirmed that the person shot by the officer in response subsequently succumbed to injuries. The officer was not harmed.
The MBPD issued condolences in a public statement, stating, “The Myrtle Beach Police Department sends its prayers and sincerest condolences to all involved in this incident.”Eyewitnesses reported a horrifying scene. Witness Michael Howard told ABC 15: “Gunshots just began going off everywhere. I saw a girl bleed and fall, and then a guy fall after being shot. Blood was all over the place. It was traumatizing.”
Due to the nature of the incident, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has investigated to provide an independent review, as per protocol. In the meantime, Myrtle Beach Police will also have an internal investigation to better grasp the events leading up to the shooting.
The department asked the public to be patient while the dual investigations are ongoing, assuring that all leads will be carefully pursued. The normally lively and tourist-filled North Ocean Boulevard is now the site of a horrific tragedy, leaving the community reeling.
