February 14, LA: CBS is set to broaden the world of its hit comedy series The Neighborhood with a potential spinoff, using the Season 7 finale as a backdoor pilot. The new show will introduce Justin Long, Kara Royster, Hunter King, and Angelique Cabral, who will guest star in the finale. Should the spinoff move forward for the 2025-26 season, these actors have the opportunity to become series regulars, joining The Neighborhood stars Marcel Spears and Sheaun McKinney.
A Fresh Perspective on The Neighborhood
Taking a unique turn, the new spinoff flips the original show’s dynamic. While The Neighborhood depicted a white Midwestern family adjusting to life in a predominantly Black Pasadena neighborhood, this offshoot follows brothers Marty (Spears) and Malcolm (McKinney) Butler as they step out on their own in Venice Beach. Now, they find themselves as newcomers in a community that’s physically close to their old home yet culturally worlds apart.
Introducing the New Faces
The spinoff will feature an eclectic group of characters:
- Hunter King as Bellamy: Witty, dark-humored, and frequently indulging in edibles, Bellamy works in content creation for a stylish cannabis boutique. Despite her ironic and detached persona, she remains fiercely loyal and harbors aspirations beyond her current routine.
- Angelique Cabral as Lisa: A fast-talking, high-energy literary agent, Lisa sees Malcolm’s writing potential and is determined to elevate him to literary stardom.
- Justin Long as Bruce: A socially awkward tech millionaire, Bruce exudes a mix of overconfidence and impulsive behavior. Though lacking a filter, his sincerity and intelligence eventually win over Marty and Malcolm.
- Kara Royster as Matisse: Malcolm’s new neighbor and an aspiring influencer, Matisse comes from privilege. While she may seem spoiled, she’s also sharp, independent, and determined to succeed on her own terms after her father stopped indulging her every whim.
Production and Creative Team
The multi-camera comedy is being developed under the umbrella of The Neighborhood studio, CBS Studios, alongside Cedric the Entertainer’s A Bird and a Bear Entertainment, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, and Wendi Trilling’s TrillTV. Showrunners Bill Martin and Mike Schiff will serve as executive producers along with Cedric the Entertainer, Kaplan, Trilling, and Eric C. Rhone.
Familiar Faces and Industry Ties
This new project reunites Hunter King and Angelique Cabral, who previously starred together in CBS’ 2015 family comedy Life in Pieces. Meanwhile, Long, known for his roles in Goosebumps, Night Patrol, and Stranglehold, recently wrapped filming for the survival thriller Coyote. Royster, recognized for her work in Pretty Little Liars and Dynasty, also brings a strong following to the show.
As The Neighborhood approaches its Season 7 finale, viewers eagerly anticipate the debut of these new characters and the exciting expansion of the beloved franchise.
