Feb 22, Saturday, 2025: Transgender actress Hunter Schafer well known for her “Euphoria”, recently disclosed a significant personal, recently disclosed a significant personal challenge stemming from a policy change under President Donald Trump’s administration.

In a candid TikTok video, Schafer revealed that her newly issued U.S. passport now inaccurately lists her sex as male, a change she attributes to an executive order signed by President Trump on January 20, 2025. The order mandates that federal agencies recognize only two immutable sexes, male and female, as assigned at birth, affecting the issuance of official documents like passports.

Schafer recounted that her previous identification documents, including her driver’s license and earlier passports, had correctly reflected her female gender marker since her teenage years. However, after her passport was stolen during a trip to Barcelona, she applied for a replacement. Despite selecting female on the application, the passport she received was marked male. Schafer expressed her shock and concern, stating, “I was shocked. I just didn’t think it was actually going to happen.”

The executive order in question, titled “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government,” directs federal agencies to define gender strictly based on the biological sex assigned at birth. This policy has significant implications for transgender individuals, as it prohibits changes to gender markers on federal documents and ceases funding for gender-affirming care.

Schafer highlighted the broader impact of this policy, expressing concern for the transgender community at large. She noted that while the incorrect gender marker doesn’t change her identity, it complicates everyday experiences, particularly international travel, where she may be forced to disclose her transgender status more frequently. Schafer emphasized, “Trans people are beautiful. We are never going to stop existing. I’m never going to stop being trans. A letter on a passport can’t change that.”

This incident underscores the tangible effects of policy decisions on the lives of transgender individuals, highlighting the challenges posed by administrative actions that fail to recognize and respect gender identity.
