9 May Texas: everything is indeed bigger in Texas — and the 60th Academy of Country Music Awards proved it in unforgettable fashion. Taking place at the epicenter of Frisco, the landmark event assembled country music legends, newcomers, and surprise red-carpet companions to celebrate six decades of twang, heart, and high fashion.
Reba McEntire reprised her duties as host and wowed with both wit and fashion, getting the show started with a dynamite medley of country favorites. From LeAnn Rimes to Merle Haggard, the evening honored the music’s heritage and brought the focus on the modern-day stars.
Among them was Kelsea Ballerini, who illuminated the stage with her sparkling performance of “Baggage.” With a giant gold luggage set behind her and a matching jumpsuit, Ballerini called it her “biggest performance ever” on an awards show — even though, for the fifth time this year, she left without a trophy.

The duo even matched outfits — Wilbur went au naturel while Murph wore pink from head to toe.
At another hilarious moment, co-host Bobby Bones tricked Jelly Roll into signing a jar of jelly and presented it to Nicole Kidman, who looked delighted as she watched husband Keith Urban perform. Bones later joked that she never gave his beloved jar back.
Lainey Wilson, welcomed on stage several times by Blake Shelton as “Lainey frickin’ Wilson,” showed precisely why she’s storming the country universe. Her rendition of “Whirlwind” in an all-leather ensemble got the whole room on its feet — and perhaps helped her win out over Ballerini for Female Artist and Entertainer of the Year.
And in an unexpected nobody-saw-it-coming twist, Morgan Wallen, who received six nominations, was nowhere to be seen. Instead of appearing, he showed up golfing with Tom Brady, just missing the ACMs like he skipped the Grammys and CMAs.
