Kamala Harris Blasts Trump’s Second Term in Fiery San Francisco Speech

Read Time:1 Minute, 45 Second
Former Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a scathing critique of Donald Trump’s first 100 days back in office, warning of a “wholesale abandonment of America’s highest ideals.” Speaking at the 20th anniversary gala for Emerge America in San Francisco, Harris declared the country was on the brink of a constitutional crisis, urging Americans to resist Trump’s authoritarian agenda.

Before a packed room of Democratic donors and officials, Harris praised institutions pushing back against Trump, from defiant universities to bold members of Congress and judges upholding the rule of law. “Fear isn’t the only thing that’s contagious,” she said. “Courage is contagious.”

This marked Harris’s most high-profile speech since her loss in the 2024 election. The former VP, now based in Los Angeles, is considering a run for California governor or a second bid for the presidency in 2028. Her keynote also highlighted the work of Emerge America, which recruits and trains Democratic women to run for office, an effort inspired by Harris’s rise to become San Francisco district attorney in 2003.

Harris condemned Trump’s embrace of Project 2025, calling it a deliberate roadmap for dismantling democratic norms. “Please, let us not be duped into thinking everything is chaos,” she said.

“We are witnessing a vessel being used for the swift implementation of an agenda decades in the making.”

Despite the biting tone, Harris also offered optimism, applauding progressive leaders like Senators Cory Booker and Bernie Sanders for mobilizing resistance. The speech came just a day after Trump’s administration fired her husband, Doug Emhoff, from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum board—an action Harris alluded to without naming.

The crowd reacted warmly, with many saying the Harris they saw on stage was sharper and more energized than during her campaign. “She was on fire,” said attendee John Glass. Harris is expected to announce her political intentions by summer’s end, as the race to succeed Governor Gavin Newsom heats up.

Whether she runs for governor or president again, Harris made clear she’s not stepping back from the fight.
